All our planned events are usually shown at our events diary. Given the current Coronavirus lockdown restrictions we have decided to leave this empty until we have a firmer idea about what Events we can organise and commit to as these restrictions are progressively lifted.
All Prides in the area have been cancelled for this year, will not be taking place this year, with the exception of Cornwall Pride, currently scheduled for Saturday 23rd August, Bank Holiday Saturday. A decision on whether to proceed with that will be made by the Organising Committee on 29th July. Following that decision, we at Safe Haven – Cornwall will very quickly confirm what are our plans will be both our participation in Pride and any other activities that we will establish for that weekend.
Note that we are still continuing with our Support Groups as virtual groups via Zoom, as well as having a Drop In Chat Room while the lockdown is in place. See our Support Groups page for details. http://www.safehaven.org.uk/support/
In normal conditions, we host a variety of events at Safe Haven – Cornwall, including our monthly Event Weekends, providing opportunities for peer to per support, trips out, and monthly Spa Social nights.
Family and friends often join us and really appreciate the opportunity to discuss things with other people in a similar situation.
We understand the complexities and anxieties that come with a loved one being transgender or non-binary, especially when it has only just been revealed. Meeting with people who empathise and understand can make all the difference.
If you have not been to one of our events then we please ask that you contact us first so that we can verify who you are. This is to keep our venue safe & secure for our members and visitors in order to make sure that truly remain a “Safe Haven”.
On the first weekend of every month, we host an Event Weekend at Safe Haven – Cornwall. You are invited to come and be yourself, at least for a weekend, especially if you’re not able to “come out” at home.
On Friday nights, we have a low-key Chat Room evening, which is perfect for the first timer. This is a quieter evening, aimed at socialising, relaxing to music and play pool, and maybe even break out the karaoke. There are drinks available for purchase at the bar and we usually order takeout meals, there is a wide selection available in the local area,
During the day on Saturday, we usually have an activity or a workshop booked. Previously we have had Taiko Drumming sessions, aromatherapy, pole dancing, make-up tutorials, and much, much more. We have many activities planned for this year, which you can see in our events diary.
On Saturday nights, we have our Saturday Social. These evenings are free entry and often include live music/entertainment followed by a disco, but mainly again provide an opportunity to socialise and chat with people in a variety of gender diverse situations. The venue also offers an evening meal with a range of delicious dishes (which includes vegetarian & vegan options) for purchase. The venue also has a bar with drinks (alcoholic & non-alcoholic) available for purchase.
The venue has limited accommodation (first come first serve so please contact us to book). Camping pitches may also be available in the Summer, weather depending.
On Sunday mornings, for those who stay overnight, there is a hearty full English breakfast available and more opportunity for social interaction. You will not be expected to leave immediately after breakfast and the chatting often goes on until the early afternoon.
Spa Social Nights
Usually hosted on the second weekend of every month, we do a monthly swim & health evening at a private location which offers a swimming pool, a hot tub, a sauna, an infra-red sauna and a gym.
Please see our Spa Social Nights page for more information.
Swimming can be challenging for transgender/non-binary people. Safe Haven – Cornwall offer this private event in order to give trans/non-binary people a safe, supportive space to exercise, swim , relax and have fun. In order to cover the costs of hiring out this private venue, there is a charge of £10 per person to attend, though we are applying for funding for the future.. There are also food and drinks (alcoholic & non-alcoholic) available.
